How My Journey Began

Dr. Barbara Agyeman Prempeh, a native of Ghana, West Africa, is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified School Psychologist. She received her Psy.D. in Clinical and School Psychology from Kean University, MA in Educational Psychology from Kean University, MA in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and a BS degree in Psychology from her beloved undergraduate alma mater, Howard University.

Dr. Prempeh has worked for over 15 years as a mental health professional across multiple settings including hospitals, correctional facilities, residential treatment facility, community outpatient treatment center, and schools. In these experiences, Dr. Prempeh has provided psychological evaluations and treatments. She has also testified as an expert witness in cases of child abuse. Dr. Prempeh has also presented at conferences and provided trainings to organizations on numerous topics such as coping with psychological disorders, parenting techniques, behavioral management strategies, trauma, juvenile justice, racial/cultural issues, resilience, and trauma-informed practices. In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Prempeh is an educator with over 10 years of experience in academia teaching undergraduate and graduate psychology courses. 

 

Through her personal and professional experiences of overcoming adversity, Dr. Prempeh’s passion is helping others develop resilience in the face of adversity. Dr. Prempeh’s goal is to expand her passion of fostering resilience from an individual to community level. In her free time, Dr. Prempeh enjoys engaging in self-care, spending time with her family and friends, attending concerts, and visiting museums. 

We can not talk about adversities, setbacks, failures, or traumas, without acknowledging resilience.

  • Utilizing a culturally responsive integrated approach to wellness while also proving the highest quality psychological services.

  • Creating healing spaces for reflecting and processing individual and group differences.

  • Providing a historical understanding of related issues and traumas.

  • Exploring social constructs and developing strategies that address and correct affecting special populations including communities of color.
